The Column, No. 5:

New Server for chuckhawks.com
and Other Neat Stuff

By Chuck Hawks

The last part of March saw the entire chuckhawks.com domain (including Guns and Shooting Online) move to its own virtual server. This will let us serve you, our visitors, better. At least that is how it was supposed to work. But, as with any new system, there were teething problems, and the Subscriber Side was down for a few days. Fortunately, the Main Side of Guns and Shooting Online was unaffected. And, as I write these words at the beginning of April, everything seems to be working properly on the new server. Subscribers should know that the down time will not count against their subscription period. But to those of you who were inconvenienced, I sincerely apologize.

At about the same time Suzie, our support person and computer whiz, and her husband began moving from Eugene to the Eastern side of the state where they have bought a small ranch, and she has been away from her desk for much of the last two weeks. Another inconvenience for which I must apologize, as I am not knowledgeable enough to solve the computer problems that arise. I am just the owner/editor of Guns and Shooting Online, a simple gun writer who can't even type properly! So I, just like some of you, have had to wait for Suzie's return to cyberspace to get problems attended to. Hopefully, Suzie will be back at her station soon. Please bear with us.

Despite all the distractions, the .17 Mach 2, which I first saw in February at the 2004 SHOT SHOW, has finally made it to the pages of Guns and Shooting Online. Check the Rifle Cartridge and Handgun Cartridge pages for details. And thank you to the good folks at Hornady.

Also new for April is the review of the interesting but flawed Tikka Model 512S Over/Under rifle. You can find that article on the Product Review Page.

Those of you who visit the main Home Page of the chuckhawks.com WebSite will find a new mini feature, "Pastor Jim's Commentary." Dr. Jim Jenkins is the pastor of the Faith Center in Cottage Grove, Oregon. I think you will find his comments about topical affairs interesting and thought provoking.
