What is it?

The people of God complained (Exodus 16:1-3) that there was no food in the wilderness. Now, I've never complained about such things. In fact, I hardly complain at all. (Yeah, right!)

Fact is you and I complain a lot about a lot of different things. In this particular instance, it had to do with a need that we all have . . . the need for food. It's pretty basic. Wars have been fought over such things.

Jesus said, "Your heavenly Father knows you have need of these things. But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you." It is interesting to me HOW the Lord answered their complaint. What he didn't do was:

  • Yell at them for asking
  • Direct them to an already existing source. (A wilderness Safeway.)
  • He didn't let them die in the desert.

What He did was to answer with something that had never existed before. He sent this stuff from heaven. It was unlike anything they had ever experienced before. In fact, they called it MANNA. Manna means, "what is it?" Perhaps the thing that you hunger for is really a need. If it is really a need and not merely a want, perhaps the Lord will answer you with something you've never come across before. He may just answer with some, "what is it?"
