Anker Solix C800 Plus Portable Power Generator

By Randy Wakeman

The Anker Solix C800 Plus is a cleverly designed portable AC/DC power supply that weighs an appealing 22 pounds and comes complete with accessories such as a pair of LED flashlights stored in its lit, along with a telescoping pole so you can light your campsite or dinner table on your next adventure.

The price you pay for its lightness and convenience is a smaller battery: 768Wh. Brewing a pot of coffee with my 1200w Ninja 12 cup sucked the battery from full charge to 71%. The Ninja is rated at 1100w, with 1068w indicated draw. The Solix C800 offers 1200w continuous output, with a “peak” / surge rating of 1600w.

To put the 1600w peak rating to the test, I plugged in a Conair 1875w hair dyer. There was no issue on the low setting, but on the high setting it drew 1598w for about a minute, then the hair dryer audibly slowed down as the watt draw dropped to 1198w. While the Solix C800 can run many typical appliances, it is unlikely to handle a window air conditioner, a dishwasher, or anything requiring more than a 1200w continuous drain. This suggests to me that the Solix C800 is a terrific choice for your next hunting or fishing trip, or for general campsite use, but for home emergency power or worksite power, a heavier, higher output unit with a higher capacity battery is in order. For example, the recently reviewed Ampace Andes 1500, while heavier at just under 37 pounds, will output 2400 watts continuously, and has a significantly larger capacity battery of 1496 Wh-- double the output, close to double the battery capacity, but it is about 15 pounds heavier.

Like all the better power supplies, this Anker uses the higher cycle life LFP battery, with a claimed 3000 cycle / 10 year life as well as a 5 year warranty from Anker. It is hard not to like this unit, as it is light enough to carry with one hand, the self-charging flashlights are handy, useful, as is the included telescoping pole they can be magnetically mounted to in a flash. This model currently goes for $449 at https://amzn.to/3TTT4WI . The Anker C800 Plus is easily my favorite power station for travel.
