We must confess that we struggled in writing this article. Not because of the quality of the trays, as they are superb. Our problem was: which one is best? The Perfect Fit tray or the Universal reloading tray? There is no easy answer to that question.

If you reload a dozen or more cartridges, as we do, then the Universal Reloading Trays are probably the way to go. However, if you reload less than six rifle/pistol cartridges, you may want to go with the Perfect Fit Trays. It all boils down to cost. How many different cartridges you reload, how many trays you need and whether you will be using the trays to temporarily store cleaned and primed cases for reloading. It would add up very quickly if we bought several Perfect Fit trays for each of the cases we reload.

Through no intention or forethought by the ammunition manufacturers, multiple calibers fit into single trays. With the above in mind, we will try and put things in perspective. The Perfect Fit trays come in twelve (12) different tray styles (#1, #2, #2s, #3, #4, #4s, #5, #5s, #6, #7, #8, #9) that cover 74 rifle cartridges, from .17 Remington to the .500 Nitro and 28 pistol cartridges, from .25 ACP to .50 AE.

The Perfect Fit Tray #4s is designed for the .40 S&W, .38 Special, .357 Magnum and 10 mm Auto. You need the #3 tray for the 9x19mm Luger and #5s tray for the .45 ACP. If you reload any .44 cases, .45 colt or .454 Casull, you will need the #6 tray.

With respect to rifles, it gets a little better. The Perfect Fit #5 is designed for the (.470-.473 rim/head diameter) .22-250 Remington, .220 Swift, .243 Winchester, .25-06 Remington, 6mm Remington, .270 Winchester, 7mm-08, 7x57mm, .280 Remington, .300 Savage, .308 Winchester, .30-06 Springfield, 8x57mm, 358 Winchester and .35 Whelen, to mention a few of the standard cartridges.

If you are a magnum fan, the #7 tray handles the belted magnum cartridges (.530-.532" rim/head diameter), such as the .257 Wby. Magnum, .264 Win. Magnum, .270 Wby. Magnum, 7mm Wby. Magnum, 7mm Rem. Magnum, .300 Winchester Mag, .300 Wby. Magnum, .338 Winchester Magnum, .375 H&H Magnum,.416 Remington Magnum and .458 Winchester Magnum cases.

For the .17 Remington, .17 Fireball, .221 Fireball, .222 Remington and .223 Remington shooter, the #2 tray is for you. These cartridges have .375-.377" rim/head diameters.

There you have it, a breakdown of a few of the 100+ cartridges that the Perfect Trays are designed to handle. Because we consider both trays to be exceptional in quality and priced competitively, you must make the final decision as to which tray is best for your purposes and budget. The Perfect Fit tray with an MSRP of $5.49, or the Universal Reloading trays with an MSRP of $7.99.
